Admit My Mistakes
Do you think that you are always right all the time? Have you ever admitted your mistakes in front of your subordinates?
I have recently took up the role of a project manager. I have to make many decisions, and most of the time I have to make rough estimations because I have no prior experience. I have made some mistakes. Sometime I learn from the mistakes, sometime I do not know why it happens and the mistakes just repeat itself.
I grow up in a culture where there are expectations on the leaders. They are expected to make the right decisions all the time. Face (面子) is a very important thing to a Chinese. Especially in front of the team, leaders tend to push the blames. I think making mistakes is part of learning, you cannot learn from mistakes if you do not admit your mistakes in the first place. Admitting mistakes might give people an impression of weakness/incompetency. Lying to yourself does not help you become a better person, your colleagues will also find it harder to work with you.
It takes courage to admit your mistakes. Have you learned from you mistakes?
